Job Description

Please note this is a full time role, working a two week rotating shift pattern of:

Week 1 Monday, Thursday, Friday 10:00-21:30. Week 2 Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday 10:00-21:00. 

The purpose of this role will be to deputise for the team leader to assist, organise and manage a team of laboratory staff within the Food Microbiology Laboratory. Main duties to include:

Adhering to documented procedures for all aspects of laboratory work, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.

Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.

To deputise for the team leader in their absence i.e Annual leave, sickness, meetings etc.day

To ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with SOP’s and that any breakdowns are communicated timely to the team leader.

Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.

Monitor the functioning of your set area to ensure it is operating efficiently and effectively, with consideration to quality, technical and operational requirements identifying and reporting on any KPIs set by their relevant Laboratory Manager

To deputise for the team leader with regards to relevant contractor inductions where necessary.

To assist the safe disposal of all laboratory waste

Responsible for ensuring that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and helping to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner.

Maintain turnaround time at > 99%, ensuring that daily targets are achieved.

To assist and ensure operational best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.

To role model the behaviours in support of the Company values and to take action to assure that these are supported by the area for which they are responsible.
 

Qualifications

Maths, English, Chemistry or Biology at GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.

Knowledge of the operating procedures for the given area.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Good laboratory skills and practices.

Enthusiasm, energy and a driven outlook
